Noel Widholm is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been in the field of social work for over 26 years. He has had a history of working in a variety of settings and working with a variety of life issues. These settings include hospitals, nursing homes and retirement communities, mental health agencies, agencies serving those with developmental delays and outpatient counseling clinics. He has a Person-Centered approach and an understanding of many therapeutic approaches that allow for comprehensive treatment.
Noel believes trauma is often at the root of peoples’ distress. Many of the symptoms people experience, whether it be excessive eating, disturbing dreams etc., can be understood through the lens of trauma.
Noel has been trained in a type of trauma treatment known as EMDR. This type of treatment involves the facilitation of eye movements along with processing of events. This allows for a person to unburden themselves from dysfunctional ways of thinking and believing about themselves. EMDR is an evidenced based treatment for big and small traumas.
While the type of therapeutic treatment is important, Noel believes the most important element of therapy is the fit between client and therapist. For those interested, he allows for a short consultation prior to the starting therapy to help the client feel comfortable with the process.
